Family claims mentally challenged girl was sexually assaulted at work
A local family has filed a federal lawsuit claiming that their mentally challenged child daughter was sexually assaulted at work.John Tillar said his 30-year-old daughter Natalie, who was a longtime kitchen worker at the Country Meadows Care Facility in Bridgeville, loved her job. Then one day Natalie complained that the kitchen manager, Raymond Ballard, began sexually assaulting her in the building’s basement, Tillar said.“Natalie is very despondent,” Tillar said. “She has no reason to make up all these allegations, especially when she said it happened five or six times.”Despite physical evidence, criminal charges have never been filed in the case. The district attorney’s office released this statement: “After reviewing the facts and interviewing the young lady, we determined that we would not be able to sustain a burden of proof if charges were filed.”The Tillar’s attorney, Michael O’Day, said the Tillars have filed a civil suit, naming Ballard, the home and the food service company Sodexo.“Natalie, like any other special needs person who may not be able to protect themselves, deserves to be protected,” O’Day said. “That’s what the court system is for.”Sodexo and Ballard have denied the allegations.
